Best Ways To Care for Caesarstone Countertops

Caesarstone countertops are beautiful and durable. Quartz is rising in popularity as so many people realize the benefits of this material in the home. The durability gives you peace of mind knowing that they will last a lifetime. The beauty adds to your home's feeling of a luxurious, relaxing space.

This material is easy to take care of, but there are some specific do's and don'ts. Some daily care, prompt stain clean-up, and timely repairs will keep the countertops looking great for years to come.

Remember Heat is the Enemy

While quartz is extremely durable, high heat can have a negative impact. Caesarstone is sensitive to drastic temperature changes just like any other stone material. A jump from cold to hot can cause cracks to form in the stone. Fortunately, it's easy to keep high temperatures from coming in contact with the surface.

There are some simple ways to protect countertops from heat:

  • Use a protective mat under crock pots, air fryers, electric skillets, and any appliances that produce heat.
  • Place trivets, hotpads, or potholders under pots and pans before placing them on the counter.
  • In the bathroom, protect counters from devices such as curling irons and straighteners.
  • A little bit of preventative maintenance will provide you with lasting results. Be sure to purchase plenty of mats, trivets, and potholders so you aren't left scrambling for something to protect the beautiful countertop.

Take it Easy

One of the best ways to prevent damage is to take care regarding strong impacts and scratches. You might consider felt pads under particularly heavy or rough appliances. Even ceramic and stoneware kitchen items can have a rough surface on the bottom of the item, which could cause scratches.

Some common sense actions help keep Caesarstone looking new. Be sure not to drag heavy items across the counter but rather lift them to prevent gouges. It's not likely that the occasional, everyday impact would damage quartz because it is so strong, however sudden impacts like dropping an appliance or moving box may cause a problem.

Perform Daily Maintenance

It is best to wipe down the surfaces with a clean, soft cloth on a daily basis. This keeps the everyday dirt and grime from accumulating into a bigger problem. Microfiber cloths, cotton washcloths, and paper towels are a great option. Wet down the cloth to pick up crumbs and dust but avoid the use of anything abrasive such as steel wool, plastic scrubbing sponges, or dishwashing brushes. These can leave scratches in the surface of the material.

Daily countertop maintenance includes protection from kids. Be sure they have a safe place to use permanent markers and paints so they keep those items off the counters. A plastic sheet or tablecloth can do the trick if they need to use the countertop area.

Select the Right Cleaners

When stains and buildup occur, you will need more than a soft cloth and water to restore the look of your kitchen. It is important to select mild cleansers, versus harsh solvents. Like any stone option, Caesarstone can be damaged by strong chemicals like bleach, degreasers, glue, and paint thinners.

Instead, you might consider:

  • water and mild dish detergent
  • rubbing alcohol
  • specially formulated countertop cleansers

There are a variety of safe cleansers on the market made for use on countertops. Check that the label specifically mentions the product is safe to use on natural stone or quartz.

Unlike materials such as granite and marble, Caesarstone quartz does not need any polishes, waxes, or other protective finishes.

Repair Cracks and Chips

In the unfortunate event that there is permanent damage such as cracks or chipping, it is best to repair these as soon as possible. If left alone, the problem will only get worse. Check the warranty on the product to determine if it will cover the damage. There are also do-it-yourself options that have a low cost but a high impact on the look and longevity of the countertop.

Cracks or chips can typically be repaired easily with epoxies and resins. The correct material will ensure a seamless look. Although countertops can be repaired, due to colors and patterns it the damage may still be noticeable.

Caesarstone countertops are low-maintenance, but a little bit of effort will keep up their appearance. For more information on how to care for counters and select the perfect fit for your home, contact us at Ceramic Tile Center.
