Five Modern Bathroom Color Trends

Five Color Schemes for Your Bathroom

If it is time to remodel your bathroom, you are in luck. There are many tile options to choose from, as well as a variety of colors. The following are five bathroom color trends that homeowners are currently loving.

1. Calming Blues

Many individuals find blue to be a relaxing color. It is associated with water and clear skies. Incorporating it into your bathroom can create a spa-like feel. A light blue bathroom is particularly helpful for those intending to sell the home soon, as it can positively affect the resale value. However, any shade of blue can be used. A small half bath, for example, may be able to handle a deep navy that could be overwhelming in a larger room. For a classic nautical feel, go for a blue and white combination. Blue ceramic tile provides a traditional starting point for a variety of aesthetics.

If you are designing a bathroom for kids, blue makes a great base for a variety of themes. For example, blue nicely complements a yellow duck theme for younger kids that can transition to a more mature ocean-inspired theme later on.

2. Bold Jewel Tones

Jewel tones add a luxurious touch to any space. Even the names of the colors evoke decadence:

•        Emerald

•        Ruby

•        Sapphire

•        Amethyst

With these hues, you can go monochrome or mix-and-match. A small bathroom can likely handle a monochrome approach, but if you are working with a large bathroom, consider using a lighter, complementary color for the base and incorporating a jewel tone as an accent color. For example, emerald tiles would really pop in a soft white bathroom. To really play up the luxe factor of jewel tones, use metallics. Incorporating a rich gold mirror frame into a jewel-toned bathroom can evoke your favorite piece of jewelry.

3. Warm Earth Tones

Earth tones, from soft ivory to deep mahogany, are warm and evoke the natural world. Many individuals find comfort in nature, making these hues ideal for a peaceful bathroom. Due to the fact that ancient painters used pigments from soil and minerals, some of the earliest paints ever used were earth tones, so this color palette offers a traditional, historic feel as well. The brown undertones found in this color scheme make it ideal for use as a neutral base. Pairing these colors with brighter hues, such as spring green or a bold blue, creates visual interest. However, this color scheme works equally well when a variety of complementary colors are included. Some possible options include:

•        Red clay

•        Terracotta

•        Dusty rose

To add interest, incorporate a variety of textures. Natural stone tiles work wonderfully in earth-tone bathrooms. Jute rugs and bamboo blinds can be used to continue the earthy theme.

4. Modern Grayscale

When working with grays and blacks, some homeowners may worry the room will feel cold. Fortunately, there are many ways to avoid this. Gray paints are available in a variety of undertones that can completely change the feel of a room. For example, paint that is a mixture of gray and beige (often called “greige”) is warmer than traditional gray. Gray is available in everything from soft dove to deep charcoal, so you can pick the shade that works best for your bathroom.

Incorporating a variety of textures, from smooth tiles to plush rugs, adds depth to the room. Using copper or other warm-toned hardware contrasts with the overall grayscale to add further interest to the room.

One major benefit of working with grays and blacks is that these colors complement nearly everything, meaning this design scheme works for a variety of ages and personalities. Anything from a pink unicorn theme to a sleek masculine aesthetic can work.

5. Rejuvenating Greens

Green is one of the most abundant colors in the natural world, and it looks just as lovely in an indoor setting. Many individuals find the color relaxing, making it a great choice for a bathroom. Others may worry about ending up with a “hospital green” look, but that can be avoided by bringing home paint and tile samples to view in the bathroom to make sure they work well with the room’s lighting.

Green can be used as the primary color for a bathroom, or it can be used as an accent in another color scheme. For example, sage adds a pop of color to an otherwise earthy tan bathroom, and neon green can liven up a modern charcoal room. For retro vibes, choose pastel green ceramic tile. For a more modern feel, pair a darker shade with white and incorporate some bathroom-friendly green plants, such as:

•        Gardenia

•        Aloe vera

•        Snake plant

You can enjoy the plant aesthetic even if your bathroom does not have a window. Modern synthetic plants can look just as good as the real thing, and complement a green-theme bathroom just as well.
