These 6 Countertop Edges Add a Decorative Touch to Your Kitchen

How To Choose the Right Countertop Edge

Remodeling your kitchen can make cooking easier and improve the value of your home. Choosing the right countertop materials dramatically affects the looks and style of your kitchen. The type of countertop edge you choose adds a nice finish.

The different types of countertop edges include a beveled edge and an ogee edge along with a bullnose or half-bullnose edge. You could also choose an eased edge or a custom edge. Sonoma County Countertop Supplier has a wide range of styles. Here's a description of each one.

1. Beveled Edge

A beveled edge has a sharp, 45-degree angle from the top. It gives a rounded appearance to your countertop and produces a line. It’s a popular choice because it’s affordable and it gives your countertop an elegant finish while softening the edge. This type of edge works well both in rustic and modern kitchens. It’s easy to clean and it keeps water from spilling onto your cabinets. If you choose a beveled edge countertop, chose a material with a darker hue.

2. Ogee Edge

If you have a bigger kitchen, think about adding an ogee edge to your countertops. While it’s more costly than other countertop edges, it’s also quite beautiful. It will give your kitchen a sophisticated look. Two smooth curves fit together to make an S shape with an ogee edge countertop. This type of edge works best with quartz or granite countertops. These edges are harder to clean, however. Because this type of countertop has no edges, it’s safe for small children.

3. Bullnose Edge

A bullnose edge looks great on quartz countertops. If you’re looking for a classic look for your kitchen, consider a bullnose edge. A full bullnose edge is rounded both at the top and bottom. It looks like a U lying on its side. This refined edge makes your countertop material look thinner. If you don’t want a countertop edge with sharp edges, the bullnose edge might be the perfect choice for you. It won’t cut small children who run into it. It’s also easy to clean.

4. Half-Bullnose Edge

If you want a rounded edge that’s also easy to keep clean, consider a half bullnose edge. It's affordable and can make your countertops appear thicker. It has a slightly curved top along with a flat bottom. It’s safe, and you won’t injure yourself if you run into it. Because of this edge’s curve, water that spills won’t fall as easily off the edge. It’s also easier to keep clean.

5. Eased Edge

If you want a countertop edge that’s a bit more square, think about an eased edge. It has a sophisticated look and is great in contemporary kitchens. An eased edge is slightly softer than the edge you’ll see on laminate countertop edges. Consider this type of edge if you have concealed countertops that you pull out when you need them. This also works well with countertops that are a strange shape. Eased edges are less likely to chip if you accidentally hit the edge with a sharp object. It shows off the stone’s thickness and is easy to clean.

6. Custom Edge

If you are planning on having a granite countertop, consider adding a custom edge to it. You can show off the raw stone by having a chiseled edge. Your kitchen will have a more natural look as well. Custom edges are perfect for an upscale kitchen.

Things To Keep in Mind

Always keep your budget in mind when choosing a countertop edge. A simpler edge will cost less than a more ornate one.

Think about the type of overall look you want for your kitchen before choosing an edge. For a traditional kitchen design, consider a countertop edge that’s more ornate, such as an ogee edge. A contemporary kitchen will call for a simpler edge. If you have a smaller kitchen, you’re better off choosing an edge that’s more subtle.

Not all countertop materials can handle different types of countertop edges. You won’t be able to put a custom edge on a laminate countertop whereas a quartz countertop is extremely tough and can handle the most intricate edge.

Although marble and quartz countertops look tough and durable, you’ll need to clean them gently so you don’t damage them. Get a clean microfiber or cotton cloth damp with warm water and then add a dime-sized dab of dish soap to the counter. Fold the cloth and rub it several times over the soap to lather it.
